Tangled Drawing + Doodles

Here’s a work in progress of some more Tangled fan art. I wanted to do something in my simplified cartoon style. I’m very excited to color this!

And above are just some random anatomy/costume sketches. I have so many of these lying around so I just picked a few to share. More to come as soon as I scan them.

Tangled~

I LOVED this film. Like, a lot. I had a few free minutes to doodle, and I’ve wanted to do Tangled fan art for a while. This was all I could muster in the short time I had, but I hope to draw something nicer in the near future. I have the soundtrack playing all day at work, so it’s kind of hard not to want to doodle the characters here and there.

Catherine In Progress

I’ve been so focused on Alec, I’ve barely thought about Catherine. Her design is clearly still in progress. I always wanted a main character with wavy, bouncy hair. I’m also focusing on details like the size of her forehead, eyes, and lip shape.

Smooth Alec…

Catherine is a tough nut to crack, but Alec gets an A for effort.
The first 4 sketches are storyboards for the scene Alec and Catherine first meet. Of course this is subject to change 12 times before I’m satisfied, but ya gotta start somewhere.
[Kisses hand]
Alec: “Princess Catherine. You’re the most beautiful thing I’ve set my eyes upon.”
Catherine: “I’ve no time for flattery, Mr. Roux.”
The final image is just for fun, and it has no relation to the images above.
Alec: “Surely I’m terribly difficult to resist…”
[Catherine gives him a look that says “Yeah, right.”]

More Scribbles

My post titles get more and more creative every day.
I had this idea for a scene last night where Alec has to retrieve something valuable after it plunges into the ocean. Hence the two sketches of Alec underwater. The sketch of Alec checking on sleeping Catherine was an idea I had for a full color drawing. I hope to get around to working on that soon.

Heavenly Sword

Here’s an inked image of Nariko from the PS3 game, Heavenly Sword. It’s been so long since I’ve had any free time to dedicate to gaming, and I finally had a night off to play. I forgot how awesomely fun (and intense) this game is. I don’t particularly love the main character, but there’s something super cool about her.  How many games have female leads that run around slashing soldiers with giant swords? Exactly. You can now see this colored at my DA account over here.

Peter Parker and MJ

“Oh, Peter…I wasn’t checking out Spider-Man photos in magazines again!”
I’ve been reading lots of Spider-Man comics lately, and I just adore this pair. Started doodling and ended up coloring this really quickly. It’s too sloppy to post in my gallery so…here it is in the sketch blog!

Can You Trust an Artist?

If his name is Alec and he looks like that guy up there, then no.
I thought of this moment where he asks Catherine to trust him, and any smart woman would know better. As I build up Alec’s character I try to think of what makes him who he is. I thought that if the story takes place during the Renaissance, he can be an artist. But his problem is that it’s not inspiration, but aspiration he lacks. He doesn’t believe in dreaming to become bigger and better. He creates his work for the heck of it, and has more of a reputation as the local Casanova than as an artist. I always wanted to create a character who thinks he’s got everything, but deep down knows he has nothing. This creates an internal conflict, and the search for self.

And if Alec doesn’t take anything seriously, he’ll have to have quite a range of emotions; sly, sarcastic, witty, etc. Please bear with me as I figure this guy out.
